Being a Beaver

At 1st Emsworth we run two vibrant Beaver colonies to support young people aged 6 to 8 years of age.

  • The Millpond Colony meets on a Tuesday evening in term-time from 17:30 - 18:45.
  • The Spring Colony meets on a Thursday evening in term-time from 17:30 - 18:45.

Our Beaver Scouts develop new friendships and practical scouting skills through a broad programme that includes adventure play, creative activities, team games, essential life skills, bushcraft, environmental awareness, participation in community events and acts of reflection.

Our Beaver Colony nights are focused on achieving the six Beaver Challenge Awards alongside a minimum of 4 activity badges so that all Beavers have the opportunity to achieve and receive the Chief Scout's Bronze Award - the top accolade for Beaver Scouts to wear on both their Beaver uniform and Cub uniform should they move up.

Each year our colonies come together to offer a Beaver Sleepover, allowing for the development of further independent skills, teamwork and adventure and enabling the awarding of key parts of the challenge badges.

Uniform and Badge Placement

You don't need a uniform to join. But once you've settled in, you'll start speedily earning badges, and you'll need to know where to put them!
